Angela Clayton was the daughter of General Sir William Clayton and one of his several successive wives, Angela Bridget O'Shaughnessy, daughter of a half-Irish general in the Mexican Army, Pedro Alvarez y O'Shaughnessy. Her paternal grandfather was the 3rd Duke of Greystoke, who was a witness to the Wold Newton Meteorite strike.
Angela Clayton married Archie Bond, of the Bond family of Glencoe, and had several children:
- Andrew Bond, the father of James Bond
- Gregor Bond
- Max Bond, who like several of his relatives dabbled in intelligence work (see Silverfin by Charlie Higson)
- Bruce Bond, who emigrated to Australia and died without issue (see Role of Honour by John Gardner)
- Charmian Bond, who brought up her nephew James on the deaths of his parents (see You Only Live Twice by Ian Fleming, and Silverfin and its sequels)
Angela Clayton and her parents are mentioned by Philip José Farmer in Tarzan Alive; he added further information, including her relationship with Andrew Bond, in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life. Archie, Andrew, Gregor and Charmian figure in James Bond - The Authorised Biography of 007 by John Pearson.
