Edward Dunn Malone is a major character in (and in some cases, narrator of) the Professor Challenger stories of Arthur Conan Doyle, and a supporting player in the Curtius Parry detective stories by Paul Chapin.
An Irishman, and noted amateur rugby-player, Malone was a reporter for a London newspaper, the Daily Globe. In later life, he continued his career as a hard-drinking journalist in New York.
Malone married Challenger's daughter Enid, and according to Philip José Farmer they were the parents of detective Lew Archer. However, in his article The Challenging Rutherfords Brad Mengel points out that Lew is too old to be their son, and instead identifies him as the grandson of Challenger's brother.
