James Bond (CMG, RNVR), of Scottish/Swiss parentage, is/was a British secret agent, one specializing in investigation, infiltration and assassination. His exploits were initially chronicled by Ian Fleming. In his career he clashed several times with the Soviet assassination group SMERSH as well as the criminal organization SPECTRE and its founder Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
In Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, Philip José Farmer reveals that Bond is descended on his father's side from General Sir William Clayton (and is thus a Wold Newton Family member) and on his mother's side from Brigadier Gerard. James Bond: The Authorised Biography of 007 by John Pearson discusses the Bonds of Glencoe in some detail. Taken together, we learn something of the ancestry of Bond's parents Andrew Bond and Monique Delacroix (whose names were originally identified by Fleming himself).
It should be noted that the "James Bond" discussed here is the person chronicled in written works by Fleming and his successors, rather than the films based upon those works.
