Ulysses

Leopold Bloom was a Dubliner whose peregrinations and encounters in Dublin on 16 June 1904 were the basis for James Joyce's experimental novel Ulysses. His life is also the subject of a biography by Peter Costello.

Bloom's father was a Hungarian Jew named Rudolph Virag, who on settling in Ireland converted to Protestantism and Anglicised his surname to "Bloom". Leopold himself, though brought up a Protestant, later converted to Catholicism.

Tarzan Alive and Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life set out Bloom's rather surprising familial relationships that link him to the Wold Newton Family. Notably, through his daughter Millicent he is an ancestor of Cordwainer Bird.
