Robert Gordon was the son of Lochinvar Gordon. While he and his pregnant wife Elizabeth Rivers were flying over a remote part of Australia, the aeroplane crashed in a region known as Lost Land, where their son John was born. Robert kept his family safe for years until both parents were killed, leaving Jongor alone.
Philip José Farmer had intended to identify Jongor's parents as Wold Newton Family members in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life, but the passage in question ("Jongor in the Wold Newton Family") was abandoned. Mark K. Brown independently discovered their Wold Newton heritage in "The Magnificent Gordons", but attributed their ancestry to a different branch of the Gordon family and gave a different name to Robert's wife. Farmer's research was eventually published in Farmerphile #12.
